Transitional housing

Homeless families regularly contact Vine Maple Place to inquire about openings. If an opening is available, the applicant undergoes an intensive screening process, including personal interviews, background checks, and drug tests. Once accepted, the children and their families move into a two-bedroom apartment at Vine Maple Place for anywhere from 12 to 18 months, sometimes longer, depending on the family transition plan. The family pays 30% of its income, whatever that happens to be, in return for housing and support services.

Case Management

Residents participate in regular meetings with an on-site professional case manager as they establish and follow their family transition plans. The goal is for the parents to eventually find permanent housing and steady, livable-wage jobs.

Mentor Support

A trained mentor comes alongside each family to encourage and support them emotionally during the transition process.

Child Advocacy

The child advocate makes sure the children have a safe, stable nurturing environment where they are encouraged to grow and thrive. Services include tutoring, structured playtime, special events for the children, and other programs to help stabilize their lives and allow them to enjoy childhood again.

Family Support Teams

Volunteers from local churches and the community provide for many of the families’ physical needs, such as car repair, dental care, job skills training, hair styling, and more.

Life-Skills Training

The residents receive regular onsite training in life skills such as money management, goal setting, parenting skills, time management, and job readiness. In addition, residents attend school or other training to increase job skills or to obtain work in a field that may provide a livable wage for the family.
