The Need
Our Response The Bible is clear about how we are to treat those who are less fortunate. "Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, 'Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,' but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead" (James 2:15–17). "John (the Baptist) answered,
'The man with two tunics should share with him who has none, and the one who has
food should do the same'
" (Luke 3:11). "This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another. Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the alien or the poor' " (Zechariah 7:9–10). "The LORD watches over the alien and sustains the fatherless and the widow" (Psalm 146:9). "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress" (James 1:27). "Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow" (Isaiah 1:17). "Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless; maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed. Rescue the weak and needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked" (Psalm 82:3–4). "Do not take advantage of a widow or an orphan" (Exodus 22:22). "A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling" (Psalm 68:5). (All Scripture is from the New International Version of the Bible.) |

In
2007, we received calls representing 1,000 homeless parents and children
but were able to accept only 17 single mothers and their 15 children and
1 single father and his 3 daughters into the program.
